"At the foot of the Pico mountain, my São Mateus vineyards are located on its south-facing side. They benefit from greater sun exposure, but at the same time have a greater cold influence due to their proximity to the mountain. These soils acquire local names depending on the type of lava that formed them. The “aa lava” or “scoriaceous” soil, characteristic of effusive volcanic eruptions, is traditionally known as “Chão de Biscoito”, where most of the grapes used in this batch come from."
