The Tinta Negra grape variety is part of Madeira Island's ancient vines and remains the basis for the wines that made the island famous. Outside of Madeira Island, it's a rare variety found only in regions near the sea, earning other names such as Molar in Colares, where it's practically extinct, Saborinho in the Azores, where it's recovering, and the Canary Islands, where it's known as Tinta Bastardo, where it's very rare.

Tasting notes: Open ruby color. Intense nose, notes of crushed fresh strawberry, some vegetal notes. Fresh, textured attack, good acidity, the aromas from the nose are repeated. Excellent persistence.
