Product Info
On this island, over 500 years ago, vineyards were planted in the crevices of the volcanic rock, just meters from the sea. But even earlier, in 1465, was the arrival of the Utras, a corruption of the name of Joss Hurtere, a Flemish man who was Captain Donatário of Pico and Fayal, instrumental in the development of wine and vineyards on these islands. We have been handed down the legacy of one of these vineyards, still in the Utras' lineage, a small plot in Criação Velha that borders the sea, in the "1os Jeirões" (1st Jeirões), in a location with the greatest solar exposure and concentration.
Grape Varieties: 95% Arinto dos Açores and field blend
Region: Azores
Tasting notes: Citrus-straw color, aroma of iodine, salt, and linden. On the palate, a dense, concentrated attack; acidity cuts through the middle and lingers until the end. Salt, salt, salt, and iodine—it's a slap in the face from the sea.

Awards: 96 Robert Parker Points / Grandes Escolhas Magazine 19.5 / Jancis Robinson 19 Points
